怎么说呢，“死”其实是很简单的一件事情，就是大脑停止运转，心脏体制跳动，呼吸停止进出。但是，我看到《实用翻译教程》（上海外语教育出版社）里面罗列下面这么多的“死法”：

die...这个不用说了吧...

perish 死亡（暴卒）

succumb(to)死于

expire辞世（过期了）

suffocate(choke)窒息而死

 decease 死亡

demise 薨、崩（帝王、公侯）

croak死（喉咙里发出声音）

depart 逝世

fall 倒下死

hang绞死、上吊死

写实：

cease respiration 停止呼吸

relinquish life 放弃生命

lose one's life丧命

emit one's last breath=breathe one's last呼出最后一口气

cease to exist灭绝

come to a violent death 横死

suffer death遭受死亡

meet one's death丧命、大限已到

end one's day寿终

commit suicide 自杀

drop dead 倒毙

be no more没了，不在了

hand in one's chips交上某人的碎尸???

push up (the) daisies被埋葬

shut the shop打烊（停止经营人生）

answer the last call 授命（交代后事了）

bite the bullet忍受剧痛（快死了）

go home feet first脚先跨进天堂了(home，这里应该是天上的那个家吧？）

go by the board落空、成泡影=come to naught(naught，零）

turn up one's heels=turn up one's toes=kick up one's heels翘脚、蹬腿（挂了）

kick the bucket翘辫子、翻白眼

go to one's reward=go to glory仙逝

leave this world=abandon the world谢世、弃世

lay down one's life=die a martyr=make(pay) supreme sacrifice捐躯、献身

go to one's last home回老家（当然是天堂了）

depart to the world of shadows命归黄泉

be numbered with the dead生死簿上已被勾成死亡

pass over the great beyond驾鹤西游（见马克思）

join the choir invisible(入寂，归寂）

go the way of all flesh走众生之路（注定要死去）

呵呵，其实我们中文里也有很多“死法”，同样是“人话”，当然都有其多样性和丰富的表达。
